Although working remotely has been an option for some for many years, now more than ever it is becoming the new norm. Here are a few tips to help prepare you for your first remote interview. And after you nail that interview, check out how to get your

Background
Try to avoid harsh lighting that makes you look shadowy – natural light is often best. Find a place you can sit comfortably and uninterrupted.
Test Run
Call a friend or family member on the same channel the interviewer is using. You can also record yourself and review how you come across in video.
Prepare
Write down any questions you might have beforehand and have them nearby. Have your resume on hand in case you need to reference it at any point.
Interview
Get everything set up at least 10 minutes before. Dress professionally – you don’t want your interviewer to accidentally see your llama pajama pants! Use body language just like you would in an in-person interview – this will help break the barrier of feeling distant.
Keep Calm
Don’t worry, sometimes technology fails everyone. Make sure you’ve given the interviewer another way to contact you. You could even have another way to make sure you can continue with the interview (for example, if you’re on a Zoom call, call in on your computer and on your phone. Just remember to have one muted!)
